Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period

​What changes can you make during the Medicare Open Enrollment Period (January 1 - March 31)?

• Switch Medicare Advantage plans – even if they made a switch during Annual Enrollment Period.
• Drop your Medicare Advantage plan and switch to Original Medicare.
• Add a standalone Prescription Drug Plan if you decide to switch to Original Medicare during this period.
  • This will require underwriting for the Med Supp, which should be submitted first. Once confirmation is given that the client is accepted, then submit application for the Prescription Drug Plan and cancel Medicare Advantage Plan.
  • Effective dates can be Feb 1 – April 1 (keep in mind that Prescription Drug Plans only have effective dates of the first of the month).
  • **Note: you cannot get into MAPD during this period nor can you join a PDP if you have Original Medicare w/out a Med Supp. You cannot switch from one PDP to another PDP

​Medicare General Enrollment Period

• If you weren’t automatically enrolled in Medicare, and you missed your IEP, you can apply for Part A and/or Part B during this time.
• Runs January 1 –March 31
• Coverage begins July 1
